Our Purpose & Vision

Our Passionate Purpose:  To do the Right Thing

We want to make certain that our active duty military personnel and their families, are not forgotten.  We want to show our respect and appreciation in a highly visible and meaningful way.  We want to remind our community that they are away from home, working on our behalf and often placed in harm’s way.  They deserve our support and prayers.

Our Declaration:  Honorable Intentions

We want to declare a major street in your town as the “Avenue of Honor.”  A sign will be placed at each intersection, dedicating a corridor as a special place of honor.  This will not represent a street name change, it is simply a geographic designation.

Our Plan: Freedom Signs

We want to see beautifully designed “Freedom Signs” displayed high above the street, on the light standards now lining your main streets.  These signs will be approximately 18” by 34”, on a white reflective background, proudly bearing the name of the individual serving, and the appropriate branch of service.  This will be supported by the phrase, “Defending Our Freedom.”  This sign will be placed in service as soon as possible after the individual is sponsored and his/her status is confirmed.  Upon honorable discharge from active duty, the sign will be brought down for the presentation ceremony.  The freedom sign is paid for by sponsoring members of the community, with the support of the local service clubs.

Our Honors Ceremony: Returning Home

The City Leaders will hold a brief presentation/honors ceremony, potentially at the beginning of a regularly scheduled City leaders meeting.  This should take no more than five minutes, possibly in conjunction with the formal Pledge of Allegiance.  The sign will be presented to the serviceman and his family, by the Mayor or other designated person, with active support from the other city leaders.

Our Media Support: Recognition

The local media should be encouraged to provide coverage for the initial recognition and the closing ceremony.  This ensures that the individuals and families are appropriately recognized.
