How to Nominate Someone for the Avenue of Honor
The Avenue of Honor program is community based, grass roots program. Its purpose
is to identify and honor those actively serving our Country in the Armed Forces. You can play an important part by nominating a worthwhile candidate. We sincerely
hope that you embrace this opportunity and help identify and honor these fine young
people.
Each Avenue of Honor is hosted by local
Service Organizations. The
participants from these organizations form
The Circle of Honor,
which is responsible for servicing their selected Zip Codes. It is essential
to match the candidate's home Zip Code with the appropriate
Service Organizations' area of service.
The nomination can be made directly to the local
Service Organizations or
here on-line,
in which case it will be automatically directed to the appropriate
Service Organizations.
Eligibility
The nominee must meet certain standards and conditions to qualify. The basic requirements
are as follows:
- Be on active duty, domestic or deployed.
- Have the approval
of the individual and or family for this highly visible form of recognition. (Individuals
do have a right to privacy).
- The individual should have enough service time left
to allow for implementation of the program. Exactly how much time is
required is a local decision.
- To have all the
nomination forms completed appropriately.
- To have a profile on person making
the nomination.
- To have a record of honorable service.
- To have an established
connection to the community.
- Attended school in the community.
- Held a job in the community.
- Attended church in the community.
- Is closely related to someone in the community.
- Spouse lives in community.
The nomination will be evaluated and approved by the local
Circle of Honor.
